About This Publication
Abstract
This page explains who operates this site, how our research is conducted, how affiliate relationships work, and what editorial standards we apply. We believe transparency about these things is not optional — it is what separates useful consumer information from disguised advertising.
Who We Are
This publication is edited by Jake Housewell, an iGaming and regulatory affairs analyst with nine years covering offshore gambling compliance and consumer protection for Australian players. Jake is based in Melbourne and focuses specifically on operators that target regulated markets — Australia, Sweden, the UK — without holding the licences those markets require.
What This Site Is
The Australasian Gambling Safety Journal publishes consumer-focused research on offshore gambling operators targeting Australian players. Our focus is on operators that are either illegal under Australian law, operating in regulatory grey areas, or carrying documented risk signals that Australian players should understand before depositing funds.
We are not a regulator. We are not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice. We compile publicly available data — regulatory filings, complaint records, Trustpilot and Casino Guru data, licensing documentation — and present it in plain language for people who are trying to make informed decisions about where they gamble.
Affiliate Disclosure
This site contains affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and sign up or make a deposit at a third-party operator, we may receive a commission payment from that operator or their affiliate network. This commission comes at no additional cost to you.
We want to be direct about how this works in practice: affiliate commissions are a source of revenue for this site. Without them, this research would not be financially viable to produce. That creates an inherent tension, and we think you should know it exists.
Our editorial policy is that affiliate relationships do not determine our conclusions. The CoinCasino review on this site reaches a negative conclusion about the operator despite the presence of an affiliate link to a third-party casino in the call-to-action. We do not receive affiliate revenue from CoinCasino itself.
All affiliate links on this site are marked with rel="sponsored" in the HTML,
consistent with Google's link scheme guidelines, and are visually labelled as advertisements
or paid links at the point of appearance.
How We Research
Our reviews draw on the following sources, all of which are publicly available:
- Trustpilot review data — we read the full review history, not just the star rating, and document specific complaint patterns with dates and amounts where reviewers have disclosed them.
- Casino Guru Safety Index — an independent assessment that accounts for complaint history, T&C fairness, and licensing quality.
- Regulatory filings and enforcement records — ACMA's blocked site list, Spelinspektionen enforcement actions, UKGC unlicensed operator alerts, and similar bodies.
- Operator Terms and Conditions — we read the actual T&Cs and quote directly from them where relevant, rather than summarising from secondary sources.
- FinTelegram and other compliance reporting — for corporate structure and ownership information that operators do not voluntarily disclose.
- Licensing authority registers — we verify licence numbers against the issuing authority's own published register.
We do not accept payment for positive coverage. Operators cannot pay to influence or remove our reviews. If a reviewed operator disputes factual claims in our content with verifiable evidence, we will update the relevant section and note the correction.
Research Methodology
Every review follows a documented five-step process:
- Licensing verification: The operator's licence number is checked directly against the issuing authority's public register. For CoinCasino, licence ALSI-142311005-FI2 was verified on the Anjouan Gaming Authority register at anjouangaming.com.
- Terms and Conditions audit: The actual T&Cs are read in full — not summaries. For CoinCasino, section 9.3 (KYC rights), the bonus terms, the chargeback clause, and the restricted countries list were all read directly from coincasino.com and play.coincasino.com in February 2026.
- Regulatory record search: ACMA's blocked site register, Spelinspektionen's enforcement list, and FinTelegram's compliance reports are checked for any formal actions against the operator or affiliated entities.
- Complaint data analysis: We read the full complaint history on Casino Guru and AskGamblers, and cross-reference with Trustpilot review timelines. Individual complaints are assessed for pattern consistency — isolated incidents are noted differently from structural patterns across dozens of reports.
- Corporate structure investigation: Business registration data for named operator entities is cross-referenced to identify connected brands, shared infrastructure, and ownership opacity risks.
All factual claims in published reviews link back to the source that supports them. Where data is time-stamped (e.g., Trustpilot score as of a specific date), that timestamp is stated explicitly. Where data cannot be independently verified (e.g., some player-reported RTP variations), this is noted as unverifiable.
Content Currency
Each page displays a "Last reviewed" date in the article header. We update content when material changes occur: new regulatory actions, significant shifts in complaint data, changes to operator licensing or corporate structure, or corrections to factual errors.
Fast-changing data points (live Trustpilot scores, current Casino Guru Safety Index figures) are noted with reference dates. A score cited as "2.1/5 as of late January 2026" may have changed since publication.
